Does my workbook leave the browser?

Uploaded .xlsx and .xls files are parsed entirely in your browser. The Extract from URL tab is the only path that touches the server, and only to proxy the URL you supply so CORS does not block direct fetches. Nothing is stored.

Which output format should I pick?

Pipe (GitHub) emits the standard | header | divider | rows | format that GitHub, GitLab, Notion, and Obsidian render. Grid emits an ASCII grid table that is easier to read in raw text and required by some reStructuredText converters. Simple emits whitespace-aligned columns without separators. HTML Table is for emails, CMS rich-text editors, or HTML reports.

How are line breaks and pipe characters handled?

Pipe characters in cell content are escaped as \| so they don't break the table. Line breaks are joined with spaces, or replaced with when Wrap long text is on so multi-line cells render correctly on GitHub.

What does Align columns do?

Pads each cell to the longest value in its column so the raw Markdown stays human-readable. Disable it for the smallest payload — GitHub still renders pipe tables without padding.

How are dates handled?

Workbooks are parsed with cellDates enabled, so true date cells become Date objects and are emitted as ISO 8601 strings (for example 2024-03-18T00:00:00.000Z). Format dates in Excel before exporting if you need a different display.

Can I export every sheet at once?

Switch sheet tabs and copy or download each sheet individually. Each sheet emits its own Markdown table. You can then concatenate them in your editor with `## Sheet Name` headings.

What size files are supported?

Up to 25 MB for both upload and URL fetch. Workbooks parse incrementally inside the browser; close the tab to release memory after large files.

When to flip each option

Pipe (GitHub) — default for GitHub, GitLab, Notion, Obsidian, Jira, and most Markdown renderers.
Grid — ASCII grid for readable raw text; required by some reStructuredText converters.
Simple — whitespace-aligned columns without separators; great for plain-text logs and reports.
HTML Table — for emails, CMS rich-text editors, and HTML-only renderers that don't parse Markdown.
Column alignment — Auto right-aligns numeric columns; pick Left/Center/Right when team conventions demand it.
Align columns — keep on for readable raw output; turn off for the smallest payload.
Preserve line breaks — keep on so multi-line cells render as <br>; turn off to flatten newlines into spaces.

Tips that save real time

Hide noisy columns with the chip toggles before exporting to keep tables compact.
For multi-sheet workbooks, copy each sheet separately and prefix with ## Sheet Name.
Excel date cells emit as ISO 8601 strings — format dates in Excel before exporting if you want a different display.
For small embeddable snippets, switch to Simple style and turn alignment off.
