Does my workbook leave the browser?

Uploaded .xlsx and .xls files are parsed entirely in your browser. The Extract from URL tab is the only path that touches the server, and only to proxy the URL you supply so CORS does not block direct fetches. Nothing is stored.

Workflow at a glance

Bring data in: paste TSV/CSV, fetch a Google Sheets / public xlsx URL, or upload a workbook.

What each part of the interface does

Input Excel card hosts three input tabs: Paste content for clipboard rows, Extract from URL for Google Sheets / public xlsx (server-proxied to bypass CORS), and Upload Excel for local .xlsx/.xls/.csv files up to 25 MB.

Output XML card renders the result in a compact line-numbered viewer with Copy and Download .xml actions.

XML Format panel controls sheet selection, cell style, element names, indent, CDATA, declaration, and value coercion.

Workbook Info shows the loaded file name and sheet/row counts.

When to flip each option

Sheet selection — Active for one sheet at a time; All when downstream consumers expect every sheet in one XML file.
Cell style — Element for SOAP/RSS-style trees; Attribute for compact rows; Field name + value when you need a generic <field name=... value=.../> shape.
Root / sheet / row element — match the schema your consumer expects (e.g. Order, OrderLine).
CDATA strategy — Never for strict XML schemas; Auto when cells may contain HTML-like fragments.
Add XML declaration — on for SOAP, RSS, OPML, government filings; off when embedding the fragment inside another document.
Coerce types — on for CSV/paste sources where numbers and booleans arrive as strings; harmless for .xlsx.

Tips that save real time

For SOAP-style payloads, set the row element to a singular noun like order or customer.
For RSS feeds, use root rss, sheet element channel, row element item.
Disable Pretty print for production transmission to save bytes.
Header names with spaces or punctuation are auto-sanitized to safe XML names — rename in the spreadsheet first if you want explicit control.
