How to fold your zine:
- Print the single page (single-sided, landscape)
- Fold in half lengthwise (top edge to bottom edge)
- Unfold, then fold in half widthwise (right edge to left)
- Fold in half widthwise again
- Unfold completely — you'll see 8 panels
- Cut along the red line (center horizontal, middle two columns only)
- Fold lengthwise again, push ends together to form booklet
Build a single-page mini-zine
Zine Imposer arranges 8 images on one landscape sheet using the classic single-fold-and-cut layout. After printing, folding, and slitting the centre, the panels read in order from cover to back. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
1. Sheet settings
- Paper Size. Choose the destination paper. The sheet is rendered in landscape, so each panel is one quarter of the long edge wide and half of the short edge tall.
- Reference DPI. Sets the resolution used to evaluate image suitability. 72 is rough screen, 150 is okay print, 300 is standard print, 600 is fine print.
- Add 3mm bleed. Extends each image past the panel edge so trimming or folding misalignment will not show a white gap.
- Clear all. Removes every loaded image and resets the slots back to empty.
2. Pages and ordering
- Page slots. Eight slots numbered Cover, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Back. Click an empty slot to upload an image, or drag a file straight onto a slot.
- Drag handle. Each filled slot has a grip icon; drag it onto another slot to swap the two images.
- Fit / Fill. Per-image toggle. Fit keeps the whole image inside the panel and may leave white margins; Fill covers the panel and may crop edges.
- Remove. Clears a single slot without affecting the others.
3. Preview and export
- Sheet preview. Shows the imposed layout with the top row rotated 180 degrees, the cut line marked, and panel numbers visible so you can verify reading order before exporting.
- Download Zine PDF. Generates a single-page PDF in the chosen paper size and downloads it. Print single-sided in landscape, fold using the steps above, and slit the centre to assemble.
Which mini-zine layout does this produce?
The classic single-sheet, single-fold-and-cut format: 4 columns by 2 rows in landscape, with the top row rotated 180 degrees so the booklet reads in order after folding and cutting the centre slit.
What is the Reference DPI used for?
It is the resolution at which your image dimensions translate into print size. Each panel is sized in millimetres on the sheet, but a higher DPI selection means images need to carry more pixels to fill that panel sharply.
Why turn on Add 3mm bleed?
Enabling bleed extends each image past its panel edge so trimming or folding inaccuracies do not leave a white sliver. Use it when your printer or service expects bleed, and keep important content inside the safe area.
Where does the file go?
Nowhere external. Images are read locally with FileReader, the imposed PDF is built in the browser with pdf-lib, and the download button saves it directly. Your photos and finished zine never leave the tab.
